What does unity of God or monotheism mean, and which concepts will we study in the Book of the Unity of God? Monotheism or Oneness of God is one of the principles of the Islamic faith, and imitation is not permissible in this regard; that is, all Muslims must believe in this principle directly and wholeheartedly. Therefore, the primary concern of every true believer is to believe in the unity of God. But what is the path to embracing monotheism?
In the Book of the Unity of God, we learn that Islam presents God as the Absolute Light, and it considers the purpose of human life to be the pursuit of becoming like God; it means it asks humans to awaken the attributes and names of God within themselves to genuinely come to believe in the unity of God. To acquire the attributes of God, humans must draw closer to the Light, but how is it possible to reach the Light?
Allah describes Himself as “the Manifest”, so why do we not see this manifest and clear God? Why do we doubt the existence of God and require various arguments and justifications to prove it? In the Quran, God asks hypocrites and disbelievers why they do not observe the Kingdom of the heavens. The implicit meaning of this verse is that even disbelievers can see the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth with a little thought; so why do we not see this kingdom? Why does our thinking yield only doubt and uncertainty, rather than sure faith and certainty?
