بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
إِلَهِي أَلْبَسَتْنِي الْخَطَايَا ثَوْبَ مَذَلَّتِي، وَ جَلَّلَنِي التَّبَاعُدُ مِنْكَ لِبَاسَ مَسْكَنَتِي، وَ أَمَاتَ قَلْبِي عَظِيمُ جِنَايَتِي، فَأَحْيِهِ بِتَوْبَةٍ مِنْكَ يَا أَمَلِي وَ بُغْيَتِي، وَ يَا سُؤْلِي وَ مُنْيَتِي
My Beloved! Sins have clothed me in the garment of humiliation, and distance from You has wrapped me in the clothing of my misery; the enormity of my offenses has deadened my heart, so revive it with repentance from You. O my Hope and my Desire! O my Wish and my Aspiration!
فَوَعِزَّتِكَ مَا أَجِدُ لِذُنُوبِي سِوَاكَ غَافِراً، وَ لَا أَرَى لِكَسْرِي غَيْرَكَ جَابِراً، وَ قَدْ خَضَعْتُ بِالْإِنَابَةِ إِلَيْكَ، وَ عَنَوْتُ بِالاسْتِكَانَةِ لَدَيْكَ. فَإِنْ طَرَدْتَنِي مِنْ بَابِكَ فَبِمَنْ أَلُوذُ؟ وَ إِنْ رَدَدْتَنِي عَنْ جَنَابِكَ فَبِمَنْ أَعُوذُ؟ فَوَا أَسَفَاهُ مِنْ خَجْلَتِي وَ افْتِضَاحِي، وَ وَا لَهْفَاهُ مِنْ سُوءِ عَمَلِي وَ اجْتِرَاحِي
By Your Honor! I find no forgiver for my sins but You, and no healer for my brokenness except You. I submit to You in repentance and humble myself before You in surrender. If You drive me from Your door, whom else can I seek? If You turn me away from Your presence, where else can I take refuge? Alas for my shame and disgrace! Woe to me for my evil deeds and transgressions!
أَسْأَلُكَ يَا غَافِرَ الذَّنْبِ الْكَبِيرِ، وَ يَا جَابِرَ الْعَظْمِ الْكَسِيرِ، أَنْ تَهَبَ لِي مُوبِقَاتِ الْجَرَائِرِ، وَ تَسْتُرَ عَلَيَّ فَاضِحَاتِ السَّرَائِرِ. وَ لَا تُخْلِنِي فِي مَشْهَدِ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ بَرْدِ عَفْوِكَ وَ غَفْرِكَ، وَ لَا تُعْرِنِي مِنْ جَمِيلِ صَفْحِكَ وَ سَتْرِكَ
I ask You, O Forgiver of great sins, O Mender of broken bones! Grant me pardon for my destructive crimes and conceal my disgraceful secrets. Do not deprive me on the Day of Judgment of the coolness of Your pardon and forgiveness, nor strip me of the beauty of Your overlooking and covering!
إِلَهِي ظَلِّلْ عَلَى ذُنُوبِي غَمَامَ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَ أَرْسِلْ عَلَى عُيُوبِي سَحَابَ رَأْفَتِكَ. إِلَهِي! هَلْ يَرْجِعُ الْعَبْدُ الْآبِقُ إِلَّا إِلَى مَوْلَاهُ؟ أَمْ هَلْ يُجِيرُهُ مِنْ سَخَطِهِ أَحَدٌ سِوَاهُ؟
My Beloved! Let the clouds of Your mercy cast its shadow upon my sins, and let the showers of Your kindness fall on my faults. My Lord! Can a runaway servant return to anyone but his Master? Or can anyone save him from His wrath except Him?
إِلَهِي إِنْ كَانَ النَّدَمُ عَلَى الذَّنْبِ تَوْبَةً، فَإِنِّي وَ عِزَّتِكَ مِنَ النَّادِمِينَ. وَ إِنْ كَانَ الِاسْتِغْفَارُ مِنَ الْخَطِيئَةِ حِطَّةً، فَإِنِّي لَكَ مِنَ الْمُسْتَغْفِرِينَ. لَكَ الْعُتْبَى حَتَّى تَرْضَى
My Beloved! If remorse for sin is repentance, then by Your Honor, I am among the remorseful! If seeking forgiveness for faults erases them, then I am among those who seek Your forgiveness! You have the right to reproach me until You are pleased.
إِلَهِي بِقُدْرَتِكَ عَلَيَّ تُبْ عَلَيَّ، وَ بِحِلْمِكَ عَنِّي اعْفُ عَنِّي، وَ بِعِلْمِكَ بِي اِرْفَقْ بِي. إِلَهِي أَنْتَ الَّذِي فَتَحْتَ لِعِبَادِكَ بَاباً إِلَى عَفْوِكَ سَمَّيْتَهُ التَّوْبَةَ، فَقُلْتَ: ﴿تُوبُوا إِلَى اللَّهِ تَوْبَةً نَصُوحاً﴾. فَمَا عُذْرُ مَنْ أَغْفَلَ دُخُولَ الْبَابِ بَعْدَ فَتْحِهِ؟
My Beloved! By Your power over me, turn toward me! By Your forbearance toward me, pardon me! By Your knowledge of me, be gentle with me! You are the One who opened for Your servants a door to Your forgiveness and named it “repentance,” saying: “Repent to Allah with sincere repentance” (Quran 66:8). What excuse remains for one who neglects to enter after the door is opened?
إِلَهِي إِنْ كَانَ قَبُحَ الذَّنْبُ مِنْ عَبْدِكَ، فَلْيَحْسُنِ الْعَفْوُ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ. إِلَهِي مَا أَنَا بِأَوَّلِ مَنْ عَصَاكَ فَتُبْتَ عَلَيْهِ، وَ تَعَرَّضَ لِمَعْرُوفِكَ فَجُدْتَ عَلَيْه
My Beloved! If the sin of Your servant is ugly, let Your pardon be beautiful! O Allah, I am not the first to disobey You, yet You turn toward him, nor the first to hope for Your kindness, and You were generous to him.
يَا مُجِيبَ الْمُضْطَرِّ، يَا كَاشِفَ الضُّرِّ، يَا عَظِيمَ الْبِرِّ، يَا عَلِيماً بِمَا فِي السِّرِّ، يَا جَمِيلَ السِّتْرِ. اسْتَشْفَعْتُ بِجُودِكَ وَ كَرَمِكَ إِلَيْكَ، وَ تَوَسَّلْتُ بِجَنَابِكَ وَ تَرَحُّمِكَ لَدَيْكَ
O Responder to the distressed! O Remover of harm! O Great in Goodness! O Knower of secrets! O Beautiful in covering [sins]! I seek Your intercession through Your generosity and nobility, and I appeal to You through Your majesty and Your mercy.
فَاسْتَجِبْ دُعَائِي وَ لَا تُخَيِّبْ فِيكَ رَجَائِي، وَ تَقَبَّلْ تَوْبَتِي وَ كَفِّرْ خَطِيئَتِي، بِمَنِّكَ وَ رَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
So answer my prayer, disappoint not my hope in You, accept my repentance, and erase my sins by Your favor and mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful!
